When its cold out I have been noticing the car having problems starting. Frankly this problem is with my grand am and with my sunfire both LD9s. What exactly happens is that the car cranks but takes a while to get the engine to start...when it starts its fine. So basically it would take about 7 seconds of cranking until it starts. The altenator was just changed. It has a brand new battery, and bosch plugs. By the way I know bosch plugs are @!#$...but I dont think thats the problem. I am guessing its fuel related. The check engine light is on for the IAT sensor.
Thank You.
Sounds like a fuel problem. The seems like the fuel system is bleeding down to where when you go to start the car it has to pump fuel from the back of the car cause there is none in the lines up near the engine. Could be the fuel pressure regulator or even the fuel pmp. Gm does have a common problem with the fuel pumps bleeding down after a while of sitting.
yup i think your right...lets see what everyone else has to say?
thanks
Let's hear this. I am having the same problem. Mine also stalls out occasionally.
QUESTION:
When you turn the ignition key ON, can you hear the fuel pump?
The noise sounds like "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMH" for a short time, that's the fuel pump.
Do you hear that?
That's the fuel pump sending fuel to the fuel fuel lines to the injectors.
You could try resetting the IAC motor... disconnect the battery for a bit... then reconnect it... then turn the key to on (not start) and leave it there for at least 10 seconds. Then start the car.
Fixed my wonky start problem

When the engine is off, the fuel pump should lock and maintain pressure in the lines for the next start up. In his case it seems as though either the pump or the regulator is bleeding the pressure. He is gonna hear the pump come on but it has to build the pressure back before the engine will run.
sounds to me like a fuel problem...but not with the pump...how could i fix this...and yes the pump does go on.
ignition modules there known for that. there expensive so make sure to use only gm parts.
