Coolant change?

Ok, this is the third time in 50k that my orange coolant is turning into sludge and tripping out my coolant level sensor. is there any draw backs to switching to the green stuff? my other vehicle have the green and I have had no problems. Also yes it is properly diluted 50/50. I know Ill have to flush the radiator engine ect.. VERY WELL. anything other than that?

Well, GM says only to use the pretty orange stuff, so it might void your warrenty if you change, might be a diferent chemical composition....anyone?

The Dexcool is a different chemical. It is supposed to last longer and be less corrosive than the normal green fluid. You can go to the green fluid only if you do a very good flush. Normally the only time Dexcool turns to slush is if you mix in some of the green stuff with it. Hope this info helps.

They sell antifreeze now that is supposed to be good to use with Dexcool or regular green antifreeze. On the bottle it says use with any color antifreeze. I've never used it, but maybe thats the way to go in the future. Anyone else know anything about this stuff?

The reason it is for all makes/models is because they remove the silicates (spelling?). With it being silicate free, it will not sludge up the orange or pink or other green stuff.

FWIW I switched to green right after the warranty expired on my 2002 Cavalier OHV. Been about a year now and no noticeable problems. I did a good flush too. Green antifreeze shouldn't hurt anything as both are ethylene glycol based.

maybe if you have an iron block with aluminum head it might be okay to use the green stuff as long as you flush it every year.
I don't really have a clue what I'm talking about...
They say use DEX I use DEX

Red97Cavy,
Does your car overheat? it might be the sludgy coolant on the radiator?
Coolant should run like water, not sludge

I've got a leak at my heater core hose assembly in my '02 Z. I picked up a jug of the Prestone Universal coolant. I haven't had any issues, and I've been using it for about a month and a half.
