Best Gas mileage Additives acetone lucas ect?
Tuesday, December 20, 2005 10:22 AM
i was just wondering who has added stuff to there gas to improve mileage and what actually helped and what didnt. only people who have really tried and kept track of there mileage i was looking in a dif. thread and i seen someone say they get 750 to a tank. lol so lets keep it all real I drive for a living and they dont pay my gas so every gallon i can save helps! Ive read alot about acetone and such but just never got around to trying it.
Also i have about 170k miles on the car anything else i can change for better gas besides fuel filter, and air filter? i should probably do the plugs soon i suppose

thanx for any input

Yeah, plugs should have been done at 100K. My only recomendation is to run some Techron fuel system cleaner in it, and use a good gasoline. No higher than 89 octane. Anything above that is a waste of money. A K&N drop in filter will help a little bit, but not much.

Get someone to do a fuel system service on your injectors, (not just the tank additive, but the can that runs through your pcv vlave and injectors) Also suggested to replace pcv valve & air filter after this proscess. Your gas mileage will really go up after a good injector bath!!

Seafoam will do just that.

And if he has a 2200, you cant replace the pcv valve, and you shouldnt be using any form of cleaner into the opcv valve. Thats a bad idea.

well ive added 3oz when i filld my tank today im prett amazed. ive drove 60 miles today so far and the gas gauge hasnt even moved!.. i also bought a box of th red STP gas treatment. just so i could use the nozzle for th acetone in my gas tank so i filled my tank put stp stuff in and measured 3 oz of acetone poured it into stp container then into my tank we'll see how many mils i get out of this tank. My car is also an automatic

Brandon, if you buy the acetone in one-gallon cans

it is terrible about spillage....it seems to leap out of

the can when you're trying to fill a measuring container.

(it's due to the low surface tension of acetone)

A high-sided funnel is a big help to reduce the problem.

Enjoy a better running vehicle as well as extra mileage !

Phil, yes, acetone will destroy the paint on your vehicle

if it's not wiped or quickly evaporated.

After it is added to gasoline in minute amounts there

would be minimal or no such damage.

I was skeptical about adding Acetone. But not sure how to go about it. Where at can I pick up some Acetone? And how would I go about putting it in my tank? Precautions? Pricing?

You can get it at walmart kmart hardware storees ect. its in a tin can 32oz or a gallon. where i went anyway. Its next to paint thinner ect. I bought a little measuring cup thatmeasured ounces. i then bought a case o STP Gas treatment (just to use the bottles not sure if its has any effects) I poor the stp gas treatment in a full tank then measure 3oz of acetone and poor it into the STP container so its easy to put into the tank. Im still at a 3/4 full with 160miles so far on the tank. This is amazing me i looks like i could be going 450+ with a tank where i use to get like 250. We'll see im curious to see where it will be at a half tank the things i have done since i bought my car keep in mind it has 170k miles AND is an automatic

Cleaned TB
Fuel Filter
Air intake

then the acetone and stp treatment thats it

Ok so let me get this straight, you are adding Acetone to your gas?????? Acetone is known for destroying rubber products, it litterally eats away at them. Seaform is horrible for your car, dont bother. It is notorious for clogging cats. The only treatment that is wrth the money id Chevron Techron. It has no damaging side effects. I honestly dont see how addinf 3 oz's of acetone is gonna increase gas milage; Nor increase power. Regular preventive maitenance is about all you can do. You wanna increase milage, dont break 1500rpm's and drive on the highway as much as possible, thats about it. City driving will greatly reduce milage. Making sure your tires are at the proper pressure will also help greatly.

Ok, I read up all about it, and how it lowers the surface tension greatly. I bought a can of it tonight at work (sears hardware). Cant wait to try it. I think Im gonna wait till My next fill up. Because before the winter gas came out I was getting 70 miles before the needle droped below the full mark. We'll see how it changes, I will keep posting. I have about a half tank now but no method of pouring it in, I might get one of those gas treatment bottles like Brandon Has done. Ill probley end up using a shot glass to measure lol, I have nothing else that I can measure an ounce with. I hope everyone else keeps posted as well. By the way I have the 2.2 OHV motor.

One car I didn't drive. the 97 2.4 auto.
Still get 22 mpg. City only.
aem intake and magnaflow muffler.
Oil changed regularly, clean air filter, relativly new ignition(replaced at 75K miles; 105K currently). Tested for two tanks with no positive results.

The other 05 fire 5 spd.
brand new, all highway miles. 60 miles a day. And yes I drive like an "arse."
Before and after the tests.
