Oil pump
Tuesday, December 20, 2005 3:28 AM
Got a querstion, my oil pressure guage gets pretty irratic sometimes, drops way down, jumps back up, drops down, jumps up crap like that. I check the oil daily and its not using any. Think maybe my oil pump is gonna crap out on me soon or am I totally off here? If anyone has any type of suggestions or things I can do to check it out please let me know. Figured I'd ask now for help and specify what kind of help I need before some jack ass pops up with some smart ass remark.

Make sure the wire isnt broken on the sender. My old eclipse was like that, I ended up wiring it so when the pressure dropped low the light on the dash would come on real dim, then Id throttle it and it would go away.

No kidding oil pressure rises when you hit the gas. At idle about 8pis is normal. Oil pressure will rise a lot when hitting the gas, would you rather it rise to much and be on the safe side, or not rise to much and spin a main?

Well when I first got the car the oil pressure guage hardly ever moved, it always stayed up at normal, now it mainly drops when its idle. Its prolly normal for it to drop when at idle but It never done it before so I was wanting to get a lil info on it.

Ok, just went out and started it up for a few, doing fine right now, although its cold as hell out but Its sitting right where it normally does, between 60-65. To cold to sit out there right now for it to warm up. But I do know that when I first got the car it would always stay at 60-65 psi, It might just be the cold weather, the car is cold blooded, died on me a few times in the past week. Another thing not normal but this is the first winter I've had the car so I prolly just need to get used to the things it does when its cold.

i would change the oil asap with a good synthetic 15-40. you might even want to run some Marvil mystery oil in your oil before you change it to break up any sludge and clean it out. and use a AC delco oil filter.

see ya!
