Link 1. describes how Full Fielding was used (Still can be if you have one) as a means of bypassing the regulator on 10SI and 12Si Delco Alternators. This was used a quick fault diagnoses to see if the problem is the regulator or Alternator. It was supposed to be carried out as a bench type test with the Alternator NOT connected to the loads. The voltage can rise to quite a high level dependant on the Alternator revs and must only be tested BRIEFLY.

In Link 2 , again on the bench, 12 volts is applied to the Field terminal as a means of re-magnetizing the rotor, with the alternator NOT rotating.

Thanks Alont, But what I was getting at is how Rob says it damages the alternators when I know for a first hand fact it does not. This is great info you've found and I hope Rob sees it and reads it.
