2.4 Interference?
Friday, December 02, 2005 5:25 AM
Hey guys, is the 2.4L an interference motor? My brother-in-law's 97 GA might have a broken chain (haven't dug in to look yet) Just happened last night, he was starting to accelerate and the engine made some weird sounds, then quit. I did a WP on it a while ago (PITA) so I know how to get in there, and it's been sounding weird for a few months, almost like the timing chain tensioner was going.....Just want to know if I should plan on some new valves. I'll do a compression check when I'm done with the TC.

Thanks,
Brian

An engine in which, if the chain or belt breaks, the pistons will hit the opened valves.

This is one explanation
