Okay recently i have had a grinding sound coming from the rear end as im making a right hand turn. It doesnt do it at any other time except for when im turning right. Im kind of thinking that its a wheel bearing in the right rear but im not positive but the majority of the sound is from the right rear. The brakes and what not is setup correctly and i dont seem to have any play in the bearing. Im a mechanic and this is throwing me for a loop and is driving me nuts. Any help is greatly appreciated
Hi I'm having the same issue with a brand new 2005 sunfire coming from the right side when I am backing up and turning right, I explained this to the dealer and they checked it out and told me everything was fine... so I guess it's normal...might be the weight of the car...
I'd try replacing the wheel bearing, thats what mine was doing when it crapped out on me
Okay thanks thats what ive been thinking but at 100 dollars a pop im just wanting to make sure thats what the problem is. Thanks for the help.
It could possibly be the rear brakes grabbing in a right turn. Does this happen in hard turns only, or when ever you turn right?
jack the car up and see if you can wobble the wheel but make sure ur ebrake is off.
Ive checked everything im going to be replacing the bearings and the brakes and drums in the rear end just because with 117k on it its about time. as far as the grinding noise its on any style of right hand turn, gradual or sharp it makes no difference. Im thinking alot of it is the bearing but it doesnt have any play in it so its just throwing me for a loop.
