I've got an odd humming noise when my 97 sunfire is around 60mph. It's a stick, and pushing in the clutch doesn't change the noise. It starts around 55 and is gone by 70mph. I got new tires last month, took it back for balance check and they're ok.
Anyone have this before?

did this start after new tires?
do you feel it in the car or is it a audio noise only?
if it is a tire it might be on the rear right now, you could swap them and see if it causes a vibe in the steering wheel. You could have a bad tire even though they balance check good.
do you have hub caps? are they all tight?.
one last thought check all the plastic under the front, had the oil changed once on my malibu and they left the screws loose on the plastic piece you have to remove to access the filter and it made a hollowing noise on the e-way at certian speeds.
possible wheel bearing maybe.......
It made the noise before the new tires, and it's a gt with the little lug nut covers, they're tight. I don't feel anything in the steering wheel at all.
I didn't think of loose pieces vibrating in the wind. It's a 2.4, so I didn't have to remove any parts to get to the oil filter, but that doesn't mean there aren't loose pieces. It's next on my list to check, thanks!

I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
My 02 Sunfire does the same thing, I dont think its anything mechanical... might just be a weird thing to do with the aerodynamics (or lack thereof, hehe) of the car? Doesn't bother me much, usually have some sick ass death metal blasting when I drive
Yea, that's how I deal with it now.
ICP, Metallica and GWAR usually solve any squeaks and rattles..

Sounds like the cabin sound proofing has started to rot away. More then likely you are going to have to resound the cabin.
