OK so I may have a leaking coolant hose and so I will be leaking a ton of it and I was wondering if coolant is something that someplace like pep boys takes or is this stuff safe to just have spill out onto pavement

Do NOT pour it down the storm drain or dump it in the street. You know where that stuff goes right? Into the lakes and rivers and oceans that the rest of us swim in... Used coolant has a hazardous material.

Dexcool is nothing more than a special type of ethylene-glycol coolant. Anyone who accepts used engine coolant will take used Dexcool. Get on the horn with your local solid waste or sanitation department. For example, my county provides a center to recycle antifreeze:

Check with your local jurisdiction. It's entirely possible that Pep Boys will take it, but I haven't called them myself to check.

mine went down the local drain on the street. granted it was late at night and my car dumped all of it due to a bad water pump.
