well this is my first time on here but im new and thought i would ask for some input!!
OK well i bought a 96 z24 cavalier with the 2.4 liter cheap, it runs , drives good besides after you drive it for a few minutes , it starts idling crappy then either dies or acts like it is gonna die. I have replaced the spark plugs, spark plug boots, coolant temp sensor, fuel filter, oil, antifreeze, and a little 7/30 seconds vaccum hose that was severely damaged. While changing the spark plugs i noticed that there was oil in the spark plugs and was quite nasty. I cleaned all around the plugs and the spark plug boots. Its clean now.
I am thinking about trying to replace the fuel pressure regulator , tps sensor and idle air control valve. I know its not the fuel pump or the ignition coils or the ignition module cause it starts and runs. someone told me to replace the oil/air separator??
anyone have any thoughts of what might be going on? please reply, thanks

the car runs fine at start up , once u let it run sometimes it will idle fine and then sometimes it drops from 1000 rpm to like 500rpm then dies. Im taking it to the shop tomorrow that did all the timing work and have them see if the timings off. The exhaust spudders when it lopes rpm's and acts like its gonna die. it had a new water pump and all the timing stuff redone and i have a receipt from Tuffy, it cost $907 with a discount. thanks, ill post more as soon as i know more...lol

nobody seems to know whats wrong !! sorry man
this is gonna sound wierd, but im goin thru that right now on my 2200. Asked a GM mechanic so i didnt have to pay to have him look at it, the low idling with me is more than likely a leaking vacuum line. At this moment im lookin for the leak.
Any one ever find out what the problem was? I;m having the same problem with 2.4l 2001 grand am.
I had this problem and it was the coil packs going bad. Replaced everything under the IDI cover. All is well now.
