well i have a Z with 165k miles when i let it sit it goes probably to about 210-220 just guessing as where the gauge may be.. anyway when i drive its perfect since it has alot of miles i dont know who had it before me or what they did but i was thinking its the radiator theres no coolant leaks ect.. i already flushed the fluid and re did it still get the overheating i know it doesnt get to the redbut it annoys me when im sitting in a drive though and it starts to rise.. also when i hit the gas when parked the temp will go down.. so i dont know what it is
its normal
all the j's do this as do alot of cars , the cooling fan doesnt come on tell then
you really need to stay away from cars man
210 is nothing for an engine. Cars will idle at that because the coolant isn't moving as fast. When your actually driving you get a lot more flow thru the coolant and the temperature stays low.(same as when you rev it) Sounds counterintuitive but it works.
And all this stuff about people saying you should stay away from cars. I'll make a deal with you, make my interior all pretty like yours and I'll do your maintanence
On the other note, don't listen to them it's better to be cautious and ask then stupid and have a $1000.00 parts bill (I've done things both ways, only I had e-bay so it only cost $130.00 shipped)

dude have you even read any of the crap that comes from his key board , im not usually hard on (well this hard) on people
but this guy is a SERIOUS DOUCHE JOB
well to be safe i would check the radiator fan and make sure its comming on. my car kept getting to the 3/4 line idle, so i checked the fan and sure enough it wasnt comming on.

Girls make me mad and break my heart, but my car is always there for me.
Could it be your thermostat not opening up all the way? So when you are at a stop the car run a lil hot. Just a thought.
please search for some of your post. you post a new topic like every other day in here. im sure one of these questions had to be answered. its not @!#$ hard to search
id id search.. u guys talk alot of @!#$ for how nice my car is considering ive done it all myself except the body work.. reason i ask my other 96 cav. has never done it this will stay at 195 or close to it no matter how long i let it sit. It looked like it was straight water when i bought it i drained it but i couldnt tell which would rust the rad. anyway this one goes higher and my other one never has only reason i ask

im glad you think you know me. everything on my car was done by myself except my paint which nikki did. keep talking @!#$ like you know what your talking about
i never said u didnt do anything but ur by far the cockiest dude on the org..
anyway does anyone know where the coolant sensor level would be my light comes on ALOT and the res. is always full so it seams something has to be clogged up or something somewhere thanx-
because you dont search. that question right there is out there, ive seen it plenty of time. dont be cheap and buy a hanes manual. the sensor is at the bottom of the tank.
lol this red cav is @!#$in gay.. anyway i do have a manual chillton which i believe is better then the hayes one.. i just dont read it id rather post here
i agree you are a @!#$ douche bag lazy piece of @!#$

You have to realize it doesn't matter how nice your car is to anyone, there just annoyed with a post everyday about how to fix this or that with every little problem you come accross.

who cares then when peopel come they can search and find EVERYTHING who cares what does it hurt when i post?
theres a difference between helping and being lazy. your lazy! you have a manual but refuse to look in it. lazy pure and simple. im suprise you can even work on a car
Well, back to the original problem for just a minute....
Did you ever check to see if your fan is coming on as someone previously suggested? An inoperative fan would match your symtoms.
i dont know i know when it hits lik 215 or so the fan kicks on yes is it suppose to be on before that or anything? my other cav never goes over 195

How about the water pump?
not sure i know my waterpump is out on my other car because it will randomly dump coolant.. but this one has never leaked any coolant and the guy i bought it from said it had been replaced but who knows
Nice to see the thread back on topic
I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless the car is losing coolant/boiling over.. which could be a rad cap or improper water/coolant mix. Among other things.
If the needle goes all the way to the top... then there's a big problem. Otherwise, it's acceptable.
