So I'm driving home tonight and my car starts to die as if it is running out of gas on the highway, It picks back up and then dies again. I pulled over and try to start the car, it starts up. I let it idle for a bit and the try to drive and it was fine. I got about a 1/4 mile down the road and it dies again. I figured it must be out of gas, I must have a bad gas gauge I thought. I bought some gas, put it in the tank, car still does not start. If I pump the gas pedal like a carbureted car it would kinda keep running, but barely. If it was out of gas I know I tried to start it enough of times to get all the air out of the fuel line. Normally when I turn the key on I can hear the fuel pump turn on, I couldn't tonight, but I was on a busy highway too. Any ideas? Could I have a bad fuel pump in a Cavi that has 80,000 miles? Thanks.
Chris
Try the fuse first and see if it has blown, maybe replacing the blown fuse would get you where you want to be.
Seems like these later models need a good fuel level to cool the pump.
Hope this helps

yes its possible mine was replaced before 80k
hmmmm i have the same problem to, the fuse are good, and when i try to start the car i dont hear the fuel pump any more. im about to buy a fuel pump from the chevy dealer unless u guy know a really reliable fuel pump. i know there no performance onec. i just want a reliable one. the dealer wants 400 for a fuel pump and 150 for the floot. and do any one know where the fuel filter is?
Beware the Rouge Dragon.
The filter is at the fuel tank.Has those lame so called quick disconnect fasteners, huh yeah rite. But since the fuel pump has bit the dust changing the fitler is def a good idea too.I did a quick search on advance auto parts and they do carry a pump for ur car its 228.88 part E3507 now If u replace it ur self look at all the money u will save.Yes u have to drop the tank in case u did not know.
is that a reliable fuel pump or is that the same as what the factory will use?

i had a bad fule pump in my 01 2.2l 2200 sunfire at 57,000miles i had it replaced

Mine died at 94 000 miles, and I replaced it with an AC delco unit.
It's pricey because you have to buy the whole assembly, but I found one brand new one on eBay for cheap.
Typically most aftermarket parts are better than those lame gm pumps.U can do a search on the manufac of that pump and see if it seems to b a quality part.I have bought numerous parts from advance and had zero problems.U can check auto zone to see if they carry a ac delco brand if u want.I bought my pump from the zone it was ac delco no problems what so ever in 6 yrs.but that does not mean now they carry ur application by ac just something to consider.Look at the warranty with the part and u decide, versus a dealer price and warr and the possibiltiy of the same issue another 80 thous down the road?I would go with the afermarket.
ebay fuel pump
What do you guys think of this fuel pump i found on ebay?
Beware the Rouge Dragon.
Only problem I could see is that u have NO warranty unless u have a receipt of proof of ORIGINAL purchase from whom ever bought it.If u can get it with the orig receipt so u will have a warranty I do not see why its not a bad buy.
