Why would you put an engine AND tranny on an engine stand?
Also, what tranny are we talking about here? There is a HUGE weight difference between a 5 speed and an auto, and further between Getrag, Isuzu, 3T and 4T autos.
A 1000lb stand will support an engine fine. An engine and manual tranny should be fine too. A manual and auto tranny is getting up near the limits though. Especially if both are loaded with fluids.

the former." - Albert Einstein
i will be taking the engine out of my car and rebuilding it.....i saw an 1000lb engine stand at a decent price....but i want to make sure it can hold the engine.....i have a 5-speed....with a getrag tranny.....

umm, last i knew, your engine bolted to the engine stand where your tranny bolts to the engine, in turn u CANT put them both on the stand
well alright....guess that answers that....thanks....

does anybody know what size bolt (diameter and length) are used to hold the engine to the engine stand???.....thanks.....

take ur bell housing bolts to a hardware store, and find bolts about 2" long with the same thread. make sure u have metric (best way to do it, it find a nut that fits your bell bolts first, and use that at a gauge for the new ones)
well...i figured i'd do that as a last resort.....but somebody has to already know this....

i decided to just call a chevy dealer to get the size of the bolt....they say its a 12x1.75...but they also say there are two different lengths....45 and 75.....all in metric....
