Tensioner: How to replace.
Saturday, October 29, 2005 1:48 PM
Hi there.

The alternator on my 97 Z24 has gone after 282,000km on it. I brought it in to the local dealer and they want $390 for the alternator and $316 for the tensioner and belt. (which they say also needs to be replaced).

For $700 I'm gonna try it. Canadian tire has the tensioner for $60, the belt for $17 and the alternator for $200. So if I do it myself I'm up $500+.

My question is, has anyone ever replaced the tensioner? Any special tools required? Any one have any tips?

I have the Haynes manual but it's useless on the tensioner.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
