Fuel pressure test help please!
Thursday, October 27, 2005 1:30 PM
I have a 2001 Z24 (2.4L). The car just wont start. I checked the coil and module which turned out fine. Today we manually put a little gas to the engine via the throttle body and started the car. The car ran off the little shot of gas and died. I thought we might have a problem with the fuel filter, but I changed it and the car started for a second, died, and won't restart. I have narrowed the problem to the fuel pump which I believe might be straning. I can hear the pump run with the ignition but it sounds like it might be straining very slightly. I don't want to buy a fuel pump if it isnt the problem, because I'm on a tight budget. I tried to test the pressure with a pressure gauge, but I don't see a fitting to hook the gauge up to. A shadetree mechanic said to cut a fuel line and run a "t-fitting" in the line, but I don't want to have to cut and lines. Is there an adapter that I can buy to run a pressure gauge? From what I described, do you all think that the fuel pump could be the culprit. Car gets good spark, has a new fuel filter and pressure regulator, I can hear the pump running when I turn the key, but for some reason it's not getting any gas. Thanks in advance for any help.
