My 2000 Cavalier has a tilt steering wheel. When it was new it would lock solidly into position. Now it is loose. I can wiggle it up and down and right to left.
Is there a rebuild kit for this? Has anyone else fixed their wobbly steering wheel.
Thanks!
Tilt wheel?
Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
take off the plastic covering around steering column and look at the locking mechanism that is supposed to hold it n place. that would be my starting point

There are three screws holding the covering on. I removed the screws but the covering doesn't want to seperate. I was afraid it was going to break so I stopped. Will have to try again.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
i have a 2000 sunfire and i haven't had the problem yet

The bottom plastic cover snaps together with the top half of that plastic cover. Just give it some gentle tugging and it should snap free. I had that problem when I needed to replace my headlight switch (thrice!).
Hope that helps.
As for the tilt wheel problem, I can't help you there because my 'Fire has a stationary steering wheel
The term 'stock' is COMPLETELY relative...
My wheel does the same thing, and im confused. i belive that there is a little u-joint type thing inside, but i am not sure. any info would really help out...

unscrew the tilt wheel lever. three 7mm or t15 torx screws from the underneath, then separate the plastic pieces. everything is looking right at you.
Your car may do 13 sec @ 103 mph, but my car does 146db @ 35 hz.
I have a 2004 with tilt and mine has about 1 inch maybe inch 1/4 play to all sides. Does anyone know if it can get real bad? If its not dangerous Im not going poking around in the column and inviting problems in to my life.
