It would seem my A/C compressor is toast. I gather this is an expensive job. My mechanic put it roughly in the $700 range, though that was by no means a specific estimate. Suggestions? I am inclined to do without unless there are sub-$300 options.
how the hell can he put an estimate on the car if he doesn't know what the problem is to begin with. For all you know it could be a 35 sensor. Anyway, i noticed that it is a manuel tranny, maybe your clutch start switch went out on ya. Just a thought but at least it is a start.
I am what I am and it is what it is.
I am the 2nd most untrusted person in the world next to a lawyer, welcome to our dealership, may I help you?

It went out in the middle of the summer. I had the same mechanic fill the system and put dye in it. It worked for a while then quit again. He looked at it after and said the compressor is out and gave me the $700 ballpark estimate.
I have the A/C compressor from my 97 2.4... I removed it back in august because I never really used it... Ive owned the car since it had about 40k on it 5 years ago. Ive used the A/C maybe 1/2 dozen times... It worked fine when I removed it.
Its not very hard to replace it- the only crappy part is recharging the A/C.
Email me an offer- I can ship ASAP.
Thanks!
