I have a bit of a problem with my trunk, I have to 'close' it 2-5 times before it stays closed. I find that pulling the little hook on the bottom where the trunk locks helps a little bit. Is it the locking mechanism? Also, to open the trunk. I have to turn the key a full 180 degrees. Any ideas? Thanks.

sounds like the locking mechanism is busted. but i dont really know that much about it

I had that problem before.. its the cable sticking on the locking mechanism.

is the latch even lined up?
Unbolt the latch and move it around until it lines up- Or take a hammer and beat the latch on where the trunk closes up- They get out of wack sometimes!
Mine was like that, but I pulled the latch and greased it. It comes apart pretty easy, and I shot wd40 in the cable too. If you have to slam it or try a few times to close it, the latch may not be returning to it's locked position, like the cable is stuck. If the latch is moving fine after you lubricate it and still won't close right, then it's time to align it. Loosen the bolts, move the latch a little, and hand tighten it. Close the trunk slowly, and when the latch gets to the loop on the bottom if you feel the trunk lid shift left or right, adjust the latch the other way. You may have to do this a few times to get it right, but it eventually will close by just tipping it a little and letting gravity do the rest.
All this because they had to put a light up PONTIAC in the middle of the trunk...

I think I'm gonna try that, I've been to lazy to really fiddle with it, but now I have a direction to go. I'll post the results hopefully by Monday.
Got it fixed. I took apart the latch, Wd-40'd the crap out of it, and then I had to pry the latch up on the bottom part. Now, I could probably blow on it and have it closed. Thanks for all the input.
