trnasmission problem

well its not really the transmission its the calbe that goes outside to the transmission...it hooks onto the transmission so i can make the changes and i just wanna know what that part its called...its at hte end of the cable and its made out of hard rubber...i tried zip tighten it but it just brakes it...so if u guys know what im taking about...oh yeah i have a 96 auto sunfire 2.2L...thanx all u guys

is it a manual or auto trans? are you saying the shift cable is disconnected from the shift lever? if so, you need a pin to secure it in place.

If you are talking about what I think, its called the shift cable bushing.
