'82 1.8L OHV

The ignition module is the computer unit that kinda resembles a disc brake pad with wire connectors in the bottom of the distributor, right?

couple questions...

how expensive are they?
is there a easier way to check them rather than go thru a bazillion multimeter measurements like the manual devotes two whole pages to?
do they typically just "die", or do they go slow slow, and what would be typical symptoms?
