02 'fire DRL failure causing svc light
Saturday, September 24, 2005 7:34 PM
Has anyone had this retarded issue? Washed my car last night, everything was fine. Start it this morning, put it in gear, the DRLs and DRL indicator flash 5 times, then shut off, and the Service light comes on. The DRL relay is ok, pulled it, and does the same thing - just w/o exterior lights flashing. Headlights work fine, but the service light is annoying as hell. Any thoughts??

yep.... that exact same thing happened to me when I tried the DRL mod with a bad ground........what it does its that when you put the car in Drive/Neutral or Reverse the DRL turns on and flashes along with the headlights for about 5-8 times... and then shuts..leaving the service on.....I fixed this issue by finding a better ground, like one the screws below the steering wheel.......if you havent touched anything or haven't done any DRL mod.....I really don't know wat you prob might be....my 0.02c

Yeah, exactly what it does, but mine doesn't have a mod or anything. Where is the DRL module located? My main thought is that water got on something, whether under the hood or under the dash. Though I didnt notice any puddles on my carpet, I did just have a new winshield installed a week ago. Guess I oughta obtain a wiring diagram for this thing.

Do you have aftermarket bulbs? Do your high beams work? I've had this happen a few times, where the DRL's would burn out the high beam filament on aftermarket bulbs. Disabled the DRL's, havn't blown a bulb since (2+ years).

Yeah, took it in today, found the block that corrodes, but forgot that in Arizona, nothing corrodes. Thanks for the suggestion on the bulbs, right now that does look like what is wrong. It just sucks because when I was first diagnosing the car, the DRLs would flash, and I had all my beams and what not. Took it in to a shop today where we tore it apart, and the DRLs no longer flash, and my right high beam is not working now. Must've finally given in on the drive accross town. Indeed, these are cheap ass $5 blue bulbs from off of eBay, so I wouldnt doubt they're bad already. Wisely, I saved the ones that came with the car when I bought it, so I will swap one back in and see what happens. Anyone have any luck with the Sylvania SilverStar bulbs?? Those are my next thought... Would love to buy the full $300 HID conversion kit on eBay now, but man, that's alot...

Cool, will keep that in mind. I did change out that bulb, and all is working well. Now I have one white light, and one standard halogen. Only looks odd oncoming, cant tell much of a difference driving it. Thanks again for all the input, this is a really helpful forum.

My car did this when I put in these aftermarket "Eurodesignz" Xenons. I just took them out and bought Silverstars and the problems was fixed
