Timing Belt

Hello everyone,

I have a quick question. I heard the other day that you should have your timing belt replaced every 80,000 miles (not on J's, just on vehicles in general). I am pushing 92000 miles on my z24, Should this be something that I should look into?

Thanks

Unless your having problems I wouldn't change it and our are timing chains that can last way past 100,000 miles but after some time they do stretch out and you can tell b/c they are really noisey.

Is the timing belt the REALLY long one thats on the side of the engine that loops through all the different wheels?

No. That's your serpentine belt (or accessory drive belt).

God bless America.

I heard it should be replaced every 80-90 K or whenever your water pump goes out. Just what I heard, I'd just say take it somewhere and have the belt checked out, when you do get another belt just put on a chain instead.

You don't need to change the timing belt because there isn't one. The device that drives the camshafts is a timing chain.

what the hell??? thats not even logical you have a timing chain as lees said.....I had to replace mine just recently one of the plastic guides under the timing cover was broken in half I replaced the tensioner and show as well which is usually what makes the noises. While your in there a cam swap isnt really that difficult to do I threw in the secret cams which are pretty cheap anyways.
