95 Cav 2.2 Problems HELP PLZ!!!
Thursday, September 15, 2005 1:19 PM
ok i just bought a 95 cav 2.2 auto for 400$ it has 214 000km. i got the car so cheap bc it isnt running very good. i bogt it off a teacher from school. the car is currently at school in the auto department. My auto teacher thought it was the cat. and we started it up with it off and its still doing it. The CEL isnt on. when the car is idling it is very rough almost like it is misfiring engine shakes a fair amount, if i give it a quick shot of gas it reves up very poorly and it sounds like its misfiring. if i hold it at a steady rpm it runs great all cylinders sound like they are firing properly. and the engine doesnt shake. is this a spark or fuel proplem, i am kinda stumped bc there is no CEL on. has anyone had this problem before. thanks for your help

is the car backfiring. check your plugs wires and fuel filter

my car is a girl because I describe her as sexy, beautiful, hot. I look at her curves, and I caress her body once a week with various soaps and sponges. Also, I get in and out of her every day.

ok i got the car hoem today, when it is running, i pulled the first spark plug wire off nothing changed, when i pull 2 and 3 it stalls. and when i pull #4 nothing changes. which means it is running off cylinder 2 and 3. i put a screwdriver in #1 and 4 wires and there is spark enough to make my arm jump. which means its not getting fuel right if there is spark? anyone got any ideas as to what to do?

wow u had access to an auto shop teacher & he gave u shizz???

whenever i buy a used car, i'd do all of the maintenance tuneup procedures... like changing out the spark plugs, checking/replacing the wires... ohmmeter to wires if under ~30Kohms, u ok.... filters/ auto trans oil change/cooling system/brake/steering fluid flush...check battery terminals/battery/alt/starter at autozone for free @ their parking lot. eventhough the CEL isn't lit, there MAY be some trouble codes stored in the car's pc.

but anyways, try switching the coil packs and test them out that way after u change out plugs...

when u do return to autoshop class, have them do a compression test and leakdown test to determine the engine's health.

we did a compression test, there is 180 across. i will do a full tuneup when i get it to run properly, il seafoam it, and everything, get all the carbon out of her lol

Well you should do that seafoam before you change the plugs and O2 sensor(s). That carbon can end up coating either the plugs or the sensors so, just letting ya know if you didn't already.

1 and 4 is one coil so swapping them, as Earl A suggested, would confirm it was either one coil pack or a different problem.

Worked on a similar problem with a 92 Buick which turned out to be the D.I.S. module that the coil packs are mounted on, although it only showed up on one coil.
That car showed no CEL even with this problem, just intermittantly missfired and lost power.

Good Luck
