Odd Problem
Thursday, September 15, 2005 9:29 AM
After not driving my 95 2.2 cavy for a few hours, when you go out tostart it it takes close to 20 revolutions of the motor for it to start and you can smell gas really bad. Normaly it starts within 1 or 2 revolutions. I checked for fuel leaks with a dye and black light, didnt see any, I checked compression (cyl 1 as 175 psi, 2 has 155, 3 is 160 and 4 is 165) I believe this is close enough to be ok. Once it does start though it boggs for a few seconds, then clears right up and runs like a champ the rest of the time your driving. Any suggestions?

goto autozone for a free test on your battery/starter/alternator and if that year had obd II, then trouble code scan...

I have the same problem as you do, although I have not checked pressure on anything! The fuel filter has been replaced along with spark plugs, I have the wires just haven't changed them yet! it'll spin like a bad starte when you try to start it and then when it does start it is a very low idle with bogging and sputtering, but after you rev it up it is fine....very strange! Hope you and I both find out what the problem is. This is a 96 with 130K roughly for miles and a 2.2 automatic!

sounds like you have some leaky injectors. when you shut the car off there is still fuel pressure in the system. if a injector leaks the pressure in to the combustion chamber drip bye drip. and over time you have lost that initial fuel pressure and have a flooded engine to boot. try some strong injector cleaner with about 1/4 tank of gas. if that does not work get replacements.

see ya!

REDBERETTAGT Same thing with the starter spin on mine too. I did a full tune up (I work at Autozone) Everything we can do for it tests ok and the obd2 system wont hook up to it, to early in 95. I have roughtly 145k on her. How do you check fuel pressure without a shrader valve on the 95's?

I dumped some injector cleaner in yesterday and it seems to help it start a little faster, less spinning anyways. I did notice that it will blow some blue smoke out the muffler on start-up though, would this mean that it is running really rich on gas maybe causing it to flood like Nova said? Anyways I'm not sure if there is a schrader valve on this or not, I would assume there is, but this is my fiancee's car and I don't look at it too often. I will try and look sometime soon and see! GL!

naw man...BLUE smoke means your burning OIL. Coud be leaky valves, or bad piston rings. Maybe even a leaky headgasket. You should check the engine with a pressure gauge.
