how much for a rebuild?

I'm looking to have my motor rebuilt by a shop. It's got 106k on it and it's running pretty @!#$ty, and every time I fix one thing another starts acting up, and I was figuring that this will hopefully make sure that it will run for a good long time. Especially since another car is far from an option right now. For the rebuild, I'm not looking to have anything redone for performance, just so that it runs like 'new.'

What I'm getting at here is I was hoping someone could give me some type of idea (ball park because I know every situation is different) how much I'm looking to spend at something like this, because I have no idea. That, and if it's going to be rediculously expensive, then I'm just going to fix what's wrong with it and hope it stays together.

Typically a rebuild is a thing of the past. The place you bring it to, removes your engine and replaces it with a engine from the factory.

I dont know of any shop that rebuilds engines on sight.

Anyways it can run upwards of $2000, most likey you will see at least 2 grand.

I'm not looking for anything performance-wise. Problem is I'm in Pittsburgh, Pa and being a full-time college student with a weekend job doesn't afford me much time. I know this sounds like I'm asking for the impossible. As far as I know, the EGR valve needs to be replaced and I'm sure the coil/cap/distrubuter needs either to be repaired or replaced, so I'm just trying to figure out if it would be worth it to replace those parts and have it tuned-up if the car is going to keep nickle-and-diming me to death.
