A few months back, I replaced my '96 2.2 motor with the 2200 out of a wrecked '00, and the swap went fine. Now, several months later I am starting to have a problem. I have gone through 2 oil filters in less than a week, and when I take them off the car they look like they have been beaten repeatedly in one spot with a hammer. I am assuming that when the motor rocks under hard acceleration, the filter is hitting something, but I can't figure out what. I have checked to make sure all of my motor mounts are tight, and they are, I just can't figure this out. The only other option that I have thought of is one of those oil filter reallocator kits, which I wouldn't mind doing, but I'm not sure if they make one for the Cavy. If anyone has seen this before, or has any other input, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Are you sure you're not just crushing it when taking it off with the filter tool if that is what you use. I know the oil filter tool I have crushes the filter a little. Could be that.
no, I'm pretty sure that's not the case. the holes develop while the car is in motion
Hmmm. I don't know what to tell you then. I don't have the 2.2 so I am not really sure what is in the way there or what not. There should not be anything near it at all that is doing that I would guess.
put some paint on the filter mixed with motor oil...the paint will stay wet and mark what ever it hits. than youll know for sure.
sounds like a bad lower mount to me
see ya!

me too seeing as the 96 engines are in all sideways like and such
It's a four banger, you gotta bang it four times to get it goin'....
thanks for all the feedback, especially the paint suggestion. the lower mount was cracked around the two rear mount bolts, and it was sitting close enough together, until the motor rocked, that I overlooked it until I used the paint. Thanks
That is what I thought was the problem but you said the mounts were tight. LOL. I guess you ment something else. Good you got it figured out. Looks like Novaracer hit it right on the nose.
just gotta say that the paint suggestion was great...I'll be keeping that one in mind for sure.
