I'm wondering how worried I should be here.
My cav (93 , 3.1, 130k miles) a oil pressure arrow likes to move a lot.
When driving around town-it stays around 80 (toward the top)
When it idles, it drops to the halfway point-
last few days ( once or twice), while idling, it drops to the quarter marker..
It does burn oil, but never more than a quarter of a quart between oil changes
Had replaced valve cover a while back..
and all this while I'm still working on the bad idling problem.
Is this normal at this high of miles? Or should I be looking for another car?
I'm just hoping my engne has life left, can't afford to rebuild it now....
i dunno if this might help....but well in my old 97 2.2OHV i left it with 126.XXX miles..... it burned oil between oil changes, maybe a lil bit more than ur car does now...i also changed the gasket and was still doing it..... well.... about the oil pressure.....the oil light used to come on eveytime the car was driven a lot or if i was at a traffic jam for a long time....and the it goes off whe i drive.....it was weird, but sounds kind of familiar of wat ur car its experiencing....
hope this helps

it's a normal thing. My Ho was doing the same thing. When the oil is hot, the pressure is different(lower). Another thing that will affect the pressure is the condition of the oil. If it's old or you beat the car alot, the oil will be lighter and the pressure will drop.

hmm..it is due for an oil change.
So dirty oil could have caused the pressure drop?
I'm usually quite good to it, but it does do mostly city driving at the moment..
I plan to put some more miles (driving wise), and it looks mostly freeway...
So you can see why I'm worried about the pressure....
