Hey, just a quick question.. I am trying to figure out what transmission is in my car.. as I need some new parts for it that are manufacturer specific.. and I am told it could have either a isuzu or a getrag transmission... and all the local dealer will tell me is that its an MJ1 and btw its a 1997 sunfire GT 5sp.

No, he does not. Isuzu/Getrag only pertain to manual transmissions.
You either have a 4T40E or a 3T40E. If you have a 3 speed (PRND21) then you have the 3T40E (MJ1), the 4 speed (PRND321) is the 4T40E (MN4).
