Howling noise
Wednesday, July 13, 2005 11:45 AM
My daughters 2000 Z24 has a howling noise that sound similar to tire noise, however it is hot the cause. Disengaing the clutch does not lessen the problem. The noise increases with car speed, not engine rpm. I've heard that the Getrag tranny is notorious for noise. Is this true and if so anything I can do to minimize. Is this something that can be fixed? or just have to live with. It has about 73,000 miles.

Thanks

the noise could be anything from tires , hub bearings , axles , diff bearings

most of the trans internals will change the rate of teh noise with rpm and gear selection

it would be best to have someone look at it to determin where the noise is actually coming from , its pretty hard for us to tell from being over the internet
