#2 and 3 Cylinders no spark
Friday, April 22, 2005 5:35 PM
A guy i work with has a 93 Beretta with a 2.2 in it similar to my 97 cavy 2.2. His problem is that his engine runs, but without cylinders 2 and 3. Somehow he got it to go 65 which is amazing to me. Anyways, we changed the plugs and wires. Still no spark. So we changed the coil packs. Nothing.

Any ideas? I know there's a metal plate that the packs bolt up to. I have no idea whats behind it.

Suggestions?

that metal plate behind the coil pacs is the ignition module.....it tells which coils to fire at a certain time

well if your other coil works that means that everything else is working so you might have got a junk coil or the module is bad. But I've never seen it just take out one coil, but I guess it is possible.

you could also just for a test purpose....swap the coils and see what happens...if 2/3 dont fire at the plug then i would start with a module.....

I called the guy and told him. I don't know....it doesn't make sense why its basically one coil doing it. I don't know much of how the ignition module works but that seems strange that one coil doesn't work and the other does. We flopped coils and neither of the new coils work in that position. Anyone know if the ignition module is kinda split so part of it does the #2 and #3 and the rest does #1 and #4? If its set up like that maybe its the ignition module. But i don't see it being set up like that.

the pins could be bad in the module so it is not grounding the primary of the coil. Realy if the module has power and ground that is really the only thing left.

After that module the only thing left is the wiring or the computer....but if the computer is bad it wouldn't just screw up one coil...it would most likely screw more than that up.

wiring = power and ground

Computer only controlled spark advance and retard not base timing.
