i'll save you alot of headaches as most of the guys on here arent to helpful about stuff like this, go buy a chiltons guide on the cavalier at autozone or o reilys they are about 20 bucks and they will save you LOTS of time and LOTS of headaches because they show you detailed pictures of what your looking for, torque specs on all bolts, special tools and what they look like as well as gm part numbers on most parts very useful book best investment i ever made.

youve gotta remove the caliper, rotor, axle nut, wheel bearing and then im not sure if its bolted in, prolly is, remove those bolts and pull it out <br>

Ya, its a cavalier, whats that?....a suzuki?

Also, you have to separate the ball joint and stabilizer bar and pull the knuckle to the side so you'll have room to get the spindle of the axle to clear the knuckle. Also, don't let the caliper hang by the hose after you remove it; get some heavy wire and hang it with it. The axle merely pulls out of the trans. Make sure when you put it back that you seat it fully in the transaxle. It's a 3 or 4 hour job the way I work...I take my time. Joe

You don't need to take off the wheel bearing and the axle is not bolt on the tranny of course. The only bolt you may see, if it's a manual, it's the bearing with the bracket that may be bolt to the engine. You don't need to remove the caliper nor the rotor.

You need to unbolt the axle nut, disconnect the tie rod end from the knuckle and the ball joint from the knuckle. Then move the strut and move the axle back to get it out of the bearing. then take it out of the tranny.

Is it possible to get the old axle out and new in by seperating the strut from the steering knuckle as opposed to undoing the tie rod and ball joint?
