So I have had a few issues with my car lately have been trying to fix it, well I brought it to a guy that does things for pretty cheap but just doesn't have much time. He was going to see why my car has surges and couldn't get his code scanner to hook up to my car. It works on any other car mine is just being a reject.
I was wondering what I could mess with to fix the OBD port? It would be nice to be able to get the codes so that I can fix the main problem that the thing is having?

Just an FYI the car is a 01 Cavalier Z24

I believe there is a fuse for the obd port... goes with the cig lighter I think

Do you have anything plugged in to the the cig lighter?
If I have a GPS/Phone changing off the lighter port the OBD port won't work but as long as nothing is charging it works fine. I assume just having the lighter in there wouldn't be a problem.
