I'm getting a high pitched squeal from either my alt. or belt tensioner. I have searched through the previous posts and formed a question none of them answered for me, its pretty stupid really but easy to answer. When I looked into the noise it sounds like its coming from the alternator, but I also tried listening to the tensioner and noticed it doesn't spin... So my question is, is the tensioner pulley on a 2001 2.4 suppose to spin with the belt? Its on the side without grooves as I'm sure you know, so I thought maybe not, but figured I would clear this up before I really started in trying to figure out where the noise is coming from and why. Any input is appreciated!
It should probably be spinning dude.. get a new tensioner assy.
Have a nice day.
Yes the tensioner should spin.
It sounds like the bearing on it has seized - go get yourself a new tensioner. (I'm 99% sure it comes with the bracket all as one piece and you don't just change the idler pulley/bearing)
