Hey guys I went for a good rip in the car last night and it started making a ticking noise now. It's not a bearing. I know my release bear is gone too but it's not that. I only hear it when I'm in gear and not on the throttle or gearing down basically only when I'm crusing at a steady speed. I drive a 2.4 mt. 1998. It gets faster when I go faster, it goes away in N or when the clutch is down. I've read up on it and it looks like my diff might be on the way out? Can anyone back me up on that? How lOng can I drive It like this and will I damage anything else driving it. I'll just replace the trans when is goes if that's whatsup

Mine has a loud tick also, just when turning to the right, and only if the gear I'm in is a little high.
The problem with mine is that it started when the shop welded a new flex pipe. It
s so confusing to me, but for now I just try to avoid the noise and hope that it's all just the flex pipe.
I hope it's not your transmission, mine neither.
