Are you any good with engine noises?
Tuesday, April 12, 2011 6:20 PM
My wife's '95 Cavalier LS 2.3L has been making a whirring noise from what I think is coming from the timing cover, thought it was the alternator but it isn't, then today the whirring noise stopped and a new clunk rattle mettalic sound replaced the old noise. The engine starts and runs fine and everything looks OK on the outside of the engine but I'm afraid to drive the car since this horriblenoise started. Any ideas on what might be the cause of all the noise? Any help would be appreciated.

hey its hard to say . does the noise change with the ac on or off? could be any of the pulleys could be timing chain. best advice i can give you is buy a mechanic stethascope for 10 bucks listen to all the pulleys and timing chain while engine is running . you will hear the bad noise when you hit the spot. also if you want to take ten minutes post a video on youtube and give me the name of the video ill look it up and listen to it and then i can give you a better idea. let me know.
