Hello,
I'm new to this group and to Cavaliers in general. The wife and I got a 99' Cavalier, 2.2l sedan with a 4-spd auto. Its a bit rough around the edges but got it for a good deal...now I did pull some codes on it just a minute ago and this is what came up.
PO122 - TP sensor circuit low voltage
PO301 - Cylinder 1 misfire
PO742 - TCC System stuck on
Now the only work that I have done to it is a new set of plugs, plug wires, oil change and injector cleaner. Before I throw a bunch of money at the problem I wanted to know what you guys think. The one that really has my attention is the PO742...most of my work on vehicles was done on older ones and I can't say I've had too much experience with GM's. The car sometimes sputters when going at a constant speed and seems to run rough occasionally when idling. Any help would be much appreciated guys, thanks much.
Peace,
Dan W.
Check the wire and spark plug on cylinder #1
Ive never heard of the TCC sticking on before that doesnt sound right.. if that was really the case the car wouldnt run.
hey your problems seem pretty easy to me. change your plugs . check your oil to be sure its ok. if your wires need done do them to and change your tps (throttle position sensor) then go to a parts store and clear the codes. if the light come back on let us know. ill bet the tcc is because the tps computers are great but not always right one sensore can screw with 20 things and throw 20 codes because of one thing. best thing i ever bought was a multi meter its your best friend with these newer cars. if you want to check your tps set your meter to volts and probe the wires ground to batt and postivie to positive wire it should say .5v with key on engine off or with engine running. and then open throttle up slowly and watch the meter to make sure the numbers increase smoothly if not its bad. wot (wide open throttle) should be between 4 and 5v some variation is ok but should be close. its all super easy to fix take you less than half and hour.
report back and let us know the outcome. good luck
Thanks guys, I appreciate the input. I'm going to take a look at the plug and wire in cylinder 1 then check out the TPS. Might just go buy a new one, they aren't very much and not sure when/if it was ever replaced. I'll keep you posted.
Peace,
Dan W.
yeah, thanks for the info dakota, i'm going to get a multi-meter and test my tps ^_^ (i got code p0122 also)
