Shift Solenoids, anyone know how to remove and replace?
Friday, February 25, 2011 3:19 PM
I have a 96 2.2 liter. and I got a check engine code of "Shift Solenoid A circuit Electrical" and also "B circuit electrical". So I snapped a few pics of what I'm trying to replace and I cant figure out how to get it out of there. A local technician told me that I would have to remove the side of my transmission to get it out. I'm not sure on that so I figured I'd ask the org experts

First one is just a far view of it. Its the wiring harness coming off the front of the transmission.

This one is a close up of the harness connected to the part i need to replace.

This one is the harness disconnected and exposing the part I need to figure out how to remove.

Lastly, and very blurry, a straight on view of the piece I cant seem to get out of there.

This part will be a tester to find out who read this much or not... lol. I tried pressing in the tabs that you can see on the straight in shot. It didnt seem to help in pulling it out. I thought it would turn and come out sort of the same fasion as a headlight bulb but it doesn't seem to. So can anyone help me with advice on how to replace this part?

Thanks guys...

Iirc you will need to remove the side cover because there is a black thin metal clip on the inside of the trans that holds that in place. im not 100% on that but the last time i messed with the trans those solenoides are held in with a thin metal (about the thickness of a paper clip)clip on the inside that you have to pop out before that comes through the trans. and if im not mistaken that is removed through the insde. goodluck man.

Thanks man. I figure if I have to take half of my transmission apart anyway, I might as well just drive it until the tranny goes completely out on it and grab another one from a junkyard and throw that one in. Its going to be just about the same amount of work anyway from the sounds of it.
