My clutch seems to be leaking (97 sunfire 2.2), what a goofy cap on that thing.
Anyways back on topic, it doesn't seem to leak real quick and I'm not sure where it's coming from... From what I've read all signs point to the slave cylinder... I was reading through the service manual and it talks about removing the transaxle, is it necessary? I was hoping for an easy fix
I will have to crawl around under it one day when it isn't so cold out and look to try and confirm the leak.
Thanks.
Actually confirming the leak is easy (check the resevoir for LOW fluid). If you top it off,and it continues it will only get worse and based on my knowledge of the 3rd gens yes removing the trans is necessary to replace the slave cylinder which will be leaking fluid all over your clutch.Bad yes,but a new slave and you might as well do a clutch if it's old or never changed doing this ( I would). If I left anything off or incorrect may others fix that.Hope this helps give u some insight on it.
Ron thank you very much. What I meant was to confirm where it was leaking, just in case it wasn't the slave cylinder... I may just keep topping it up until it gets real bad.
lol i did that once with a 97 sunfire 2.2, it lasted me a while, but if you decide to want to fix it, dont bother looking at the dealer for a slave cylinder, or a parts place, they will rape you price, i suggest to go on ebay, you can buy a whole clutch kit with slave for under $150, while a parts place or dealer will charge almost $800, been there priced that lol

your local parts store must not like you. got my clutch kit (with a warranty, slave cylinder, and new flywheel) for about $250... easy as hell to install.

sorry i made a mistake, the shop and friend i was referring to got a price of 500+tx for the clutch kit and 800 for install at that shop, still absolutely insane when you can buy them off ebay for less the 150 and less the 200 for a stage 1 or 2
