First I want to say a long hello to everyone. It has been forever since I have been on here.
Let me just get to it then: I just replaced my clutch on my 01 Cavalier. (Never have done one before, a little tougher than expected.) When I disconnected the wires from the starter, I got a little ahead of myself and didn't label the wires. I put everything back together and now the car will not start, sort of.
When you try and start the car you can hear the solenoid clicking in and out against the flywheel. Eventually, if you let it go long enough, it will start. (That is the most god awful noise I have ever heard by the way.) A mechanic I know even took it off the car and put jumper cables to it and "benched checked" it. Worked fine. I even took the damn thing down to an automotive electrical shop and had them test it with a load on it. Worked fine. The guy even opened the starter up to look at the brushes and he said they look brand new. I am the only owner of this car. That starter is the original one.
Now everyone that I have talked to has given me the are you stupid look since the starter only has the two wires. Well, not in my case. For those of you who have an 01 know that there was a recall put out on this year model for the starter/steering column, and that too much amperage was causing the fires in the columns. Now with this recall there are about 3 to 4 more wires that go to the starter from the little relay ground block that the manufacturer put on.
I am at the end of my ropes and on the verge of getting rid of it because my car is literally costing me money due to me being stationed in England. I really don't want to sell her because she is my baby. If there is anyone out there that can be of any help it would be much appreciated. If you got pics, that could/would/might help. Thanks again, Later.
