96 2.2 timing chain?
Saturday, February 21, 2009 7:49 AM
Hello, so it's a timing chain in the 2.2L correct? When should this usually be changed or are there signs it should be? I have 77,700 miles on my car. Also should I be using high mileage oil or just high quality regular 5w30? Thanks

Regarding timing chain wear, there is a definite advantage for synthetic oil.

Chain and sprockets generally last the life of the engine if oil change
reasonable recommendations are followed and a popular synthetic oil is used.

The chain and sprockets are components in an engine that greatly
benefit from this newer type of lubrication.

It's one of the biggest beneficiaries.

In my opinon I would replace the spockets and new chain on that 2.2L, Least then u have a piece of mind that all things were replaced new. High mile motor oil isnt really recommneded, Standard castrol / qakerstate oil is good enough unless you got a real oil burner then buy an additive solution. I am sure there is pro's and con's of using synethic oil, For my experience with it was crap, I blown 1 crank seal, Also rear main seal from using synethic oil. Plus I didnt really notice to big of a difference, i am sure the engine wear is next to nothing. Thats just my opinon.

Good Luck.
