Ok. Have a 98 sunfire. First I get a blinking DRL on the cluster. No DRL lights out front at all. This happened when i took the driver's side headlight out in order to replace the bulb.
The reason I was replacing the bulb is because the drivers side headlight would not light. only the DRL would work, but no high or low beam. The passenger side light is fine.
So. a rundown of issues
Driver's side headlight does not work. Things checked - All Fuses related to lights
DRL's for both lights do not work, blinking DRL cluster light.
WTH is going on.. and how do i fix it.
Also. Just curious but where are the grounds for the headlights? Do they each have a seperate ground? Do they each have a seperate wire from the switch for 12v HI/LO?
I have a 96 sunfire for a parts car. so If I have to I will just drop the steering wheels and swap them. takes all of 15 minutes. If it is a harness issue, might take a little longer...
Jon,
When I had a DRL error, my lowbeams worked, but when the highbeams were turned on the drivers side headlight shut off completely. Pull the connectors off both headlights and check contiuity for each of the three pins from one connector to the other. The harness that connects both connectors runs across the back of the radiator support. Pull that plastic splash shield off so you can get to the headlight mounting bolts, look down, and you'll see the harness. The problem was that the highbeam wire (pink) was broken somewhere in that harness, and running another wire from the passenger headlight highbeam wire to the drivers side headlight highbeam wire solved the problem.

Hey thanks. I was talking with another guy who has worked on 20 or so of these things with lighting issues. with the passenger side light working just fine besides the no DRL, and the left one not working at all except for a tiny amount of light (which would never change) He suggested the DK BLU 593 circuit, as it should have power to it with the DRL or headlights on. I checked and it has NO power. so there is the problem. And since the left headlight is connected to the DRL relay a break in the 593 circuit would cause the left headlight to not work, and for the DRL to quit working (throwing the relay for a loop since it overloads where the short is until the computer i guess says no more and just shuts them all off and gives the flashing DRL thing.
So.. I am down to one wire to follow. the center wire from the headlight plug back.... which BTW. is going to be a HUGE pain in the rear.. since the wiring harness for it is not exactly user friendly to get to.
