My God I feel like I'm making a lot of these posts lately.
I'm a few hundred miles over my oil change interval, and was going to do it today, but there's no point now.
For the past day or two, I've noticed my car starting a little harder than usual. I thought nothing of it, just that it was a little weird. While I was on the highway last night I heard what I thought to be a diesel engine, only there were none around, and the noise went away after a few moments. It was at that point that I knew what was wrong. This morning I checked my oil, and it was so low, I'm surprised my engine didn't go. I put a few quarts in, and it seems to be better.
For those with foggy memories, this is the second time this has happened to me, the first time I had no idea and ran like that for probably about 3 days.
Now, aside from my engine entirely seizing, which it obviously didn't, and the fact that I really shouldn't even own a car, what kind of damage could running extremely little to no oil cause? I'm talking piston scoring, etc.
P.S. I'll check my oil religiously every week now, but flame away if you must.

Any metal bits in the oil you took out?

Never mind, I suddenly gained the ability to read the NEXT THREAD DOWN. Sorry.

my boss at work drove an older grand am with the 2.3 HO in it without any oil at all for almost three months
on accident. He was too lazy too check the oil and when he did, it was a nasty surprise. As he began looking
for leaks, he noticed that somehow the oil drain cap had either fallen off, or was never put on-whoops.
Any ways like Matt Linke said, just make sure theres no metal particles in the oil that was left
and it should hopefully be allright
I don't think I really HAD any oil left. From what was (read: wasn't) on the dipstick, I saw no shavings. I'm going to check my oil everyday until I can get it in the shop next Wednesday. Between this seep and the CV joint, my wallets about to take a hit, but it'll be worth it to ride in a car with no mechanical problems.

For future reference, check your oil every time you get gas.

It's going in this Wednesday and hopefully it's just a seal that can be replaced. Either way it's going to get changed, but thanks for the heads up just in case.
Thanks for the tip Harrington, that's actually a good rule.
And Pilz-E... I hope that mine isn't like that. :\

change the oil again to see if there are ,metal flakes in it. checking the dipstick for metal isnt doing anything.

Heh. You'd know if yours was like that. That's a connecting rod poking out there by the oil filter.
When you change your filter cut it open
See whats inside if anything
in relation to oil checking.. How long and how do you check the oil? after driving for 10 minutes? or highway driving or running the engine idle for 5 minutes?
if you can't drive it past 40 KM/hr on first gear. you aren't tokyo drift material
Rules for checking oil for me. If I change the oil/filter I check it b4 start up once I drain/refill and new filter installed. Then start car run for about 5 mins and cut off let sit for about 5-10 minutes and recheck.I typically check my oil when the eng is cold so u get a accurite reading on the oil dipstick bc all the oil is in the oil pan and not dripping down from the topside.I check my oil wkly norm after I wash my ride and it's been sitting and I am done drying, polishing etc. That's what I do.
