ok i have a 98 cavy z24, i hear a sound from in the cab that just didnt strike me as normal, i popped the hood and i hear a knocking sound, it sounds like its coming from around my alternator, maybe a pulley, cant tell if its in or out of the motor. any thoughts?
any help? im scared to drive to work today.
i took it to a shop and they told me that my timing chain had slack in it and it was makin the noise, he told me that it would not be bad to drive it at all, is this true, timing chain seems like its a little more serious and shouldnt be ignored, also he quoted me $500-600 to fix it? is this reasonable or should i look into goin another route?
I dont know about a cavy, but my dad had his changed, and it was actually over that price! It could depend on where you are located also. I dont know if it would be safe to drive it like that or not, but common sense and a mechanic telling you not to, then I wouldnt drive it unless it was mandatory.
98z24, lowered 2", aem intake, cat-back striaght pipes!, cop ligths in the front and rear, 18" liquid metal's, primer black, tint, full audio and video.
usually its the timing chain tensioner that gets bad before the timing chain and makes that noise and it's a 300 to 350 dollar job if you find the right place.
