I have a 99 Z24, here's my situation.
Sometimes in the morning when I turn the key in my ignition the car doesn't start. All the lights on the dashboard come on and I might hear a whirling sound from my steering column it sounds like. I can hear it trying to turn over but it doesn't "spark". I take my key out, put it back in and turn, same thing.
But, if I start with my remote starter, it turns on normal. However, when I put my key back in and press the brake to reverse or go forward, the whole car shuts off, leaving the lights on the dashboard on again. I keep repeating this step until eventually it works "normally". Sometimes though when it works and I'm driving, everything shuts off again. I then need to pull over and start with remote starter again.
I took it to a smallish car shop who figures it's my remote starter or my ignition switch, but they referred me to a remote starter/audio installing shop. they replaced a bunch of wires and cleaned something but it didn't work. They hooked it to a computer too and they just can't find whats wrong with it. I need to take it to a larger more experienced shop, but has this happened to anyone and what was the solution?
