How to pull codes
Saturday, August 16, 2008 11:37 AM
Hi guys,

I have a 2004 cavalier and I have a check engine light on my car on. Is there anyway to pull codes from the car without using a scanner? I know in the old days with the 1990 cavaliers you could put a paper clip in the AB connector and turn the key and count the blinks on the dashboard. Is there anything like this I can do with the 2004 model?

i doubt it.. but you can always go to a local auto zone.. i know they still check obd2 codes.. i believe advance auto and napa have both stopped checking them.. but auto zone still does..

- Check the profile for all mod's. It's up2date!

Well I just figured it out. My gas cap was open. That explains why the code registered just after I got gas.

Question, will the code disappear on it's own now that the gas cap is on proper?

Autozone and Advance will both still scan for CEL but not ABS or Airbag. Most computers have a light reset function built in that after so many times starting the car it will turn the light off. Best to just pop in and get one of the parts dealers to reset. For about 60 bucks you can buy one of your own.
