alright, well im looking at doing some stuff to my car as a basic maintenance thing.
what id like to do is replace my tired worn out timing chain. im sure with 235,000 the chain is probably very stretched out and the cam timing is off a few degrees.
so, heres my list. double check it for me as i have never done this and just want to make sure i have everything covered.
- timing chain kit (includes chain, all shoes, tensioner, gears, etc)
- timing cover gasket set (includes all, i think)
- water pump (i think im still on original pump)
- water pump gasket
now, if i have the extra money what i would like to do while im there is
- secret cams exhaust cam swap
- new springs for valves
now ive never done anything like a cam swap before, so i want to make sure before i dive head first into this thing that i get all the parts listed im going to need so i can price them out and start purchasing.
and last thing, has anyone ever heard of Preferred Components (PCI)? they make some OEM cams and timing chains from what i could find. im debating between theirs and the Cloyes timing chain kits, but am unsure if there is a quality difference. they should at least be built to OEM standards, correct (their website says so)?
what does everyone think? am i missing anything? im hoping that by doing the timing chain i can get my cam timing back to spot on and pick up some power there. also with my taking it to the track every now and then i would like some newer timing components rather than snapping something.

Cloyes all the way...only one to trust (aside from clevite) with timing componants...
Especially in an interferance motor.
