i found out the problem with the check engine light coming on.. Thanks for the replies. It was a misfire on number 3 cylinder. I reset the computer , and drove it for about 25 to 30 miles so far, all in town driving. I bought a code scanner, and shows no codes. When I take it up to get the emissions test on the vehicle, the person doing the test says the computer has 4 incomplete parts of the computer, that have not reset themselves and they have to be 1 or less to pass. My question is, how long do you have to drive it before the incomplete parts clear or are functional. the mechanic./emissions tester says sometimes 60 to 100 miles. Does this sound right. ? The car is running smooth, but the 4 incompletes are not clearing themselves yet.
Also, by plugging the scanner in does this mess with the computer with just the key on? Nothing else just checking codes. I have to get a good emissions test before I can get it tagged and registered.
