Hello this is my first post here, so please bear with me..
I recently picked up a 1996 Chev. Cavalier 2.2 L (4-door, base model) it currently has 150,000 km..
Anyway when the car was running and warmed up it had a noticable tick coming from the timing area... The standard "Tick of Death" from the tensioner.
I went ahead this past weekend and replaced the timing chain, gears, and tensioner. Upon getting everything back togeather and starting the vehicle.. I notice the tick was gone but I know have a rubbing sound coming from the timing area.. It sounds to me like metal on plastic and not metal on metal.. I went back over everything and it looks to be installed correctly.
My only though is the chain is just working into the new tensioner and will quiet down over time?
The timing kit is a P.C.I brand.. (Preferd components inc... I believe.)
Can anyone confirm that their is a work in period when dealing with the new componets, or suggest what I should be checking.. ?
Thanks in advance for all your help...
Cheers;
Lee
