hey i have a 95 pont sunfire 2.2 with 134k on it. the #4 cylinder rod bearing spun on I4 in florida and i drove at 15mph for 13 miles to get to a pepboys . the rod is black end the bearing cap was hard to get off. the oiler hole filled with metel from the bearing., my question is should i buy a new rod. the rod is $102.00 from chevy. or how can i mic it to see if i need to. or should i buy a used engine for $500 with 86k and no history. i beleave i can hear a used from the place from. because i have to turn the crank or buy a reman. bearings gaskets etc any ideas
best bet? i would say get the used engine... take your time, rebuild the old on right, and when/if the other engine quits, or if you feel like, put the other one back in

you should be doing a lot more than just replacing a rod....
yeah i know. the cylender wal could be scored or rings cracked. i dont think so yet but i have to take the head off. the crank, all bearrings gaskets need to be done. if the rod or piston/cylender nee to be reworked then i think i should get a used. i would also get extra parts and we all know that is cool. i was just making sure that it was wise to do so. how can i mic the rod though?
what are you trying to measure on it??
i would say if you can get your hands on used affordably, just get whole transplant.
