Junk in truttle
Monday, May 12, 2008 5:21 AM
Hi all have a ?. I have a K&N filter and with the metal piping and the ruber joint going to the truttle. the bracket on the pipe broke and it was left dangiling before I could fix it. It was bumping on the hose clip attacing a hose to the sterring box oil compartment. Because of this it puncutured a rectangular hole in the pipe about 0.5cm in length. that piece of metal might have gone into the truttle. Most likely this happend while I was driving the vehicel. Would this cause any damage to the engine? How will that piece of metal be deposited from the engine? And will it cause any damages to the pistons or the chamber walls?

Thanks
Kpack

Truttle? What the hell are you talking about? The throttle body?

My bad. I am talking about the THROTTLE. The mechanishm that is responsible for acceleration. The X peddle cable attaches to it also the air filter mounts to it.

give the guy a break...hes abviously not a native english speaker. you knew what he was talking about but yet you didnt answer his question.

its not going to damage the piston. it might score the cylinder walls though. if you havent noticed any problems with the engine, i wouldnt worry about it

I could only guess at what he was talking about and didnt want to give a completely wrong answer.

So your worried that the bracket when through the hole and into your intake? Im running the K&N intake also and from looking at that bracket i do not believe it would have fit through that hole, due to the 90 degree bend it has. If it did make it in then it would have to get past the throttle plate in the throttle body. Also the way the Ecotec's intake manifold is designed i would think it would be stuck at the bottom of it, but there might be enough vacuum to pull it up to the head. If it makes it to the head i guarantee it is not going to make past the valves as one piece. If its in your engine or head i would believe you would hear it banding around. But as you can see there are alot of things working against that possablity.

I personally think it just fell off and down into your engine bay or onto the road.

How's that whiteboy?

Thanks for the responses. I haven't noticed any unfamiliar noises comming from the engine. Nor has the timming changed. So hopefully I should be "all good." Thanks.

i had the same thing happen twice to me where the bracket broke off..but I cought it before it wore through..I called K&N and they sent me a new pipe replacement on both occasions..I found out a way around it..If you get 2 nylon washer for either side and then use a locking nut..Just make it tight enough so it is not flping around and it will be good..The resone the bracket is breaking is because the tube sits so close to the hood prop rod,And wih the @!#$ty factory motor mounts if you get on the throtttle hard and the tube is bolted down solid well it will break over time..So the second way around it is get new upper and lower motor mounts..
